We were very large asteroid flies – InFuture.ru – Feel the future!

Near Earth sweeps huge asteroid eyed ground-based telescopes around the world. The newly discovered asteroid

safely fly past Earth on June 8 at a distance of 1.25 million kilometers, which is more than three times farther than our moon is from Earth.

Named 2014 HQ124 asteroid was discovered on April 23 2014 within the framework of a space mission NEOWISE (NASA). Space telescope WISE, adapted and intended for monitoring of celestial space for asteroids and comets, it became a pioneer. Telescope sees the sky in the infrared wavelength range. He captures the warmth of asteroids in infrared light and calculates their size. NEOWISE data indicate that the diameter of the asteroid HQ124 2014 is in the range between 250 and 400 meters. This is a fairly large space rock.

«Chance impact on the Earth during the passage of this asteroid zero” – said Don Eomens (Don Yeomans), Near Earth Object Program Manager (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena (California, USA ).

«Basically, asteroids tend to perform fly past Earth. Asteroids the size of 2014 HQ124 fly past Earth every few years ».

With more than 100 ground-based telescopes, funded by the U.S. space agency NASA, as well as by amateur astronomers were identified asteroids up to 2200 and found that they do not pose a serious danger to our planet. In addition, the trajectories of all known asteroids continue to re-adjusted in the course of further information during the observations.

Eomens also reported that the asteroid 2014 HQ124 is a great goal observation radar antenna in Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. This is one of the ground-based telescopes, which will monitor the asteroid rendezvous with our planet June 8, 2014. Radar measurements of distances and speeds asteroid often allow us to calculate more precise asteroid orbit, at what not only real, but also a lot of years.

Asteroid 2014 HQ124 considered “potentially hazardous asteroid” because it exceeds the size of 140 meters and is at a distance within 7.4 million kilometers from the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Currently known astronomers 1484 potentially hazardous asteroid, but at this stage, as in the near future, none of them is a significant threat to the Earth.
