This follows from the Ministry of Communications for clarification on the new rules for connection to public networks Wi-Fi, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation № 758.

The press service of the Ministry explained that to access the free internet does not have to specify the passport data, as previously assumed. It will be sufficient only to indicate the current Russian phone number, which will receive the appropriate access code.

In addition, the Russians can get a public Wi-Fi for an account on a single portal of public services.

But All this is not available to citizens of other states. Foreign mobile numbers to get in Russia free access to the Internet is impossible, and for the purchase of Russian or tourist sim card they will have to show a passport stamped by the border service of the official entrance to the territory of Russia.

However, all these restrictions do not apply to access points Wi-Fi, set not state agencies, and individuals. That is, in any particular restaurant, cafe or at a foreign citizen is free to use the free internet.
