Indian satellite transmitted to Earth the first pictures of Mars – Interfax

Moscow. September 25th. INTERFAX.RU – Indian spacecraft Mangalyaan (Mars Orbiter Mission) transmitted to Earth the first photographs of Mars, said Thursday in Mission Control Centre of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

On Wednesday, India became the first country to able to successfully launch a satellite into the orbit of Mars at the first attempt. Photos taken them from a height of 7300 km, which is visible on the surface of the planet orange and dark recesses are loaded on page ISRO in facebook and twitter.

Mangalyaan became the first Indian spacecraft launched to another planet. Its task is to study the surface of Mars and the composition of its atmosphere, as well as improvement of technologies for future missions to Mars. It is expected that the unit will operate in Mars orbit for about six months.

It was launched on November 5, 2013 from the Space Center Satish Dhawan, located on the island of Sriharikota in the Bay of Bengal. As noted by the media, the mission has cost India $ 67 million and was the cheapest of all the similar launch vehicles to Mars.

ISRO plans to send to Mars next spacecraft with a lot of scientific instruments between 2017 and 2020.
