“Proton-M” with a European communications satellite was launched from “Baikonur” – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, December 28 – RIA Novosti. Launcher “Proton-M” with a European communications satellite Astra-2G was launched from the Baikonur “cosmodrome”, told RIA Novosti Russian Space Agency.

Cputnik Astra-2G built based on a highly reliable platform Eurostar E3000. The starting weight of the device is 6 tons, wingspan after the disclosure of solar panels in orbit – 40 meters, and the capacity of the satellite to the expiration of the 15-year lifetime – 13 kW.

Astra-2G will be placed in geostationary orbit in position 28 2 / 28.5 degrees east longitude. The satellite will provide broadcast and broadband next generation in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It is equipped with 62 Ku-band transponders and four Ka-band transponders.
