Detailed scanning of the largest Shatter helped the Russian-Finnish specialists to create 3-D model of the Chelyabinsk meteorite. The weight of this piece originally was 600 kg, and was raised from the bottom of the lake at a depth of 20 meters. Now the weight of fragments is 505 kg.

The largest chip is kept in the museum of the city of Chelyabinsk. Scientists worked all day in the hall of the nature and the ancient history of the Chelyabinsk regional museum, where a special showcase is one of the largest meteorites Russia.

Two representatives of the Ural Federal University. BN Yeltsin (Yekaterinburg) – a member of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and graduate student Nikolay Kruglikov UrFU Grigory Yakovlev and physicist Thomas Kohaut from the University of Helsinki (Finland) brought a special device – 3D-Scanner.

With the help of laser beams scan was conducted meteorite Chelyabinsk, which will allow scientists to create three-dimensional computer model of it. Researchers believe that this procedure will help to refine the average density of the object and provide insight into the full size meteorite crashed in the city February 15, 2013.
The work was carried out in the framework of participation in the international scientific conference “The comets, meteors and asteroids”, held in the city of Miass.
