Charon, Pluto’s moon, is almost completely devoid of atmosphere – the Day

New Horizons probe is transmitted to Earth the data on the instrument ALICE, which confirmed that Charon is almost completely devoid of atmosphere or do not have it. This was stated by Head of Mission Alan Stern, the press service of NASA.

“When the sun is covered by Charon New Horizons, we were able to track how the light of the Sun” sews “edge Pluto and find out whether there is a it atmosphere. As we suspected, there is no atmosphere on Charon, or it is very sparse and low, “- said astronomer.

In contrast, the probe was able to discover something unusual about Pluto’s atmosphere – a snapshot of feedback hand “the king of the underworld,” shows that it has the atmosphere of smoke with unsaturated hydrocarbons, reflects light and creates a sort of “halo” around Pluto.

Another surprise – the mass of the atmosphere of Pluto, as a comparison of data from New Horizons terrestrial telescopes over the last few years, has fallen almost twice. While scientists do not know why this is happening, where the gas and disappears as it returns to its previous state.
