What is the “cousin” of the Earth Kepler 452b in the constellation Cygnus. Animation NASA – RIA Novosti

Scientists are using orbital telescope “Kepler” found in the constellation Cygnus Earth-like planets. See an animation of NASA, which shows where and how to look heavenly body.

Scientists have found at the junction of the constellations Cygnus and Lyra, and dozens of potentially habitable Earth-like planets, one of which can be called “elder cousin” of our planet, researchers said at a press conference at NASA headquarters.

Telescope “Kepler” for three and a half years of watching thousands of stars. Around one of these bodies, Kepler-452, which is 1.4 thousand light years away, it was possible to find planets similar to Earth.

It revolves around a star whose mass and spectral type – G2 – identical to our sun, and is located at the edge of life – the “donut” orbits where liquid water can exist. This suggests that on the surface could theoretically support life in the form in which it thrives in the world.

There are substantial differences – its diameter is about 60% larger than the Earth, forcing scientists to take it is not classified as “doubles” of the Earth, and one of the so-called super-Earths, the exact physical properties and habitability which there are at issue.

In addition, according to the age of the luminaries, Kepler 452b 1.5 billion years older than the Earth, on the one hand, increases the chances of survival of life on its surface, and on the other – does not warrant it, highlights one of the authors of the discovery, John Jenkins.
Of almost 1,800 exoplanets found for the last two decades, only 20 are in the “habitable zones”, but they are much larger than Earth.

There are no signals from this part of the universe scientists still could not be found. This can be explained by a significant distance from the star system of the Earth – it is located at a distance of 490 light years.
