Launched isolation experiment to simulate life on Mars – 3DNews

US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced the launch of the next insulating experiment to simulate the flight and for life on Mars.

At this time, six volunteers – three men and three women – will spend away from civilization exactly one year. They will live and work in a specially equipped unit, which is a dome with a diameter of 11 meters and a height of 6 meters. Each team member has a small room with a bunk and a desk.

The dome is mounted near the dormant volcano Mauna Loa in Hawaii. This area was not chosen randomly: local landscapes vaguely resemble Martian landscape – around virtually no vegetation, and large animals this region bypassed.

The team included astrobiologist from France, a physicist from Germany, as well as the pilot, architect , medical / journalist and a soil scientist from the United States. During the experiment, the insulating members can leave the unit only in spacesuits. The diet will make freeze-dried and canned foods. Communication with the outside world will be through the Internet with limited access.

It is expected that the experiment will help in the study of medical and psychological problems that can confront the crew during the flight and stay on the Red Planet.
