KALININGRAD 24 – RIA Novosti. Scientists Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (BFU) in Kaliningrad, to create a unique robot cockroach that looks and moves like a real insect, but unlike the living can bring many benefits, for example, to search people under the rubble, or to work as a spy.

“Customer” bioinspirovannogo robotarakana “acted as a Russian organization which, in its terms of reference indicated that the robot must be as tarakanomorfnym: looks like a type of cockroach,” behavior ” the robot must be as close as possible to the natural behavior of cockroaches, “- said in high school.

As the prototype was chosen the South American type of cockroaches Blaberus Giganteus. The length of the robot – is less than 10 centimeters, but it can accelerate up to 30 centimeters per second. On Me “Terminator” can carry a weight of about 10 grams, for example, a miniature camera, or “bug”, so use development will be finding people under the rubble or in intelligence.

Scientists and engineers BFU worked on the project for about seven months, observed the real insect species Blaberus Craniifer. Soon came the first model, made up of paper clips, servo, battery and needles with a spring inside, intended for electrical circuits, low current, which in each of the 20 versions improved.

According to the researchers, attempts to collect electronic insect were before, but nobody has been able to make it so tiny and closely mimics the style of walking insect. The robot is equipped with a light-sensitive sensor, and system contact and contactless sensors for the detection and avoidance of obstacles.

By the date of delivery of the project in December, the developers expect to build a navigation system that the robot can move along a predetermined course. The system includes an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a magnetometer – a set which is installed in every smartphone. In addition, it is planned to increase the battery life: Now the robot can move in within 20 minutes.
