Scientists have found in the human mind the critical point – REGNUM

Berlin, January 28, 2016, 16:40 – REGNUM The researchers from the Institute of Medical Psychology at the University of Kiel in Germany, have created a mathematical model for the study of human consciousness, reports Science.

The results of their work are published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface. A group of German physicists and neuroscientists to create a mathematical model to identify the key differences in the brain activity of human modes of wakefulness and sleep.

In the experiment, 12 volunteers participated. They administered a sleeping pill and using magnetic resonance imaging recorded brain activity during sleep and waking conscious.

It was found that the transition from one state to another noticeable change brain activity. Mathematical analysis allowed scientists to argue that consciousness can be considered “balanced chaos.” In the waking state the brain makes the most of all their zones and structure, unites them in a common system. During the sleep, the brain goes into “low status” and uses a part of the structure.

Scientists say the definition of the range of activity. Consciousness arises and there is a critical point – the moment “balanced chaos” when the brain uses all the resources of the nervous system and ensures their interaction. Exceeding this threshold leads to mental illness, and lowering – loss of consciousness.

The German scientists believe they have created a mathematical model explains the bulk of the experimental data obtained previously by other investigators of the topic.
