On the planet of Proxima Centauri may exist lake – scientists – with Mail.Ru

Scientists have stated that in the “second world” the star Proxima Centauri may be reservoirs of liquid water. The findings were published by scientists at arXiv.org.

The study authors used a well-known climate models that describe the planets of the solar system. The possible presence of liquid water on the Proxima b due to the nature of its rotation around the star. The above scenario, scientists admit the existence of its surface waters.

If Proxima b is located in the tidal capture with a star (always turned to it on one side), the presence on the surface of the Earth 0.6 volume of water allows for the presence in the border the region between the lit and dark sides of the planet’s liquid water. When the pressure of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere Proxima b greater than one bar, the ocean covers the entire surface.

On the discovery of Earth-like planets at Proxima Centauri it learned August 24. Distance from the planet Proxima b to the parent star is 7 million kilometers – only 5% of the distance between Earth and the sun. The planet is much closer to their parent star than Mercury is to the Sun, but very much fainter than the Sun, Proxima. So it turns out that Proxima b falls within the habitat zone of its star. It is estimated that the surface temperature allows the water to exist in the liquid state.
