Russian planes provide internet – News Khabarovsk on dvnovosti.ru

Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Russian Satellite Communications Company” (RSCC) is planning to develop equipment to provide broadband services on board aircraft via Russian satellites.

This was told Yuri Prokhorov, CEO of RSCC.

– In this direction are actively developing our competitors abroad, and we want to offer a similar service, based on domestic development, we prefer not to take foreign ready solution, – said Yuri Prokhorov. – These services can enable us to use trudnoprodavaemye resources on those devices, the accuracy of which hold an orbit is stable enough. Since the mobile station, such as on airplanes or ships, just be able to use the signal of the satellite, it is still stable, he or hanging out.

Satellite constellation RSCC currently consists of 13 satellites in geostationary orbit, so they can provide connectivity virtually anywhere in the world. A pilot project to equip the aircraft communications through Russian satellites is planned for next year.

In the body of the aircraft is set signal receiving special antenna, which must not impair the streamlining of the aircraft. She catches the signal from the satellite, which is much higher: the plane is flying at a distance of 10 km from the earth, the satellite is at a distance of 36 thousand kilometers from the earth.. Then the signal can already be made in the interior, where distributed as a regular Wi-Fi.

Now the number of Russian and foreign airlines offer internet services on board during the flight. This service is free of charge (for example, in business class) or costs from $ 5 to $ 30 depending on traffic. To ensure communication along the entire route from one country to another airline enter into a contract with the “integrator”, which involves one or more operators.
